My Wife Is Also In There
Su Jingyang and Ling Li exchanged a glance, then looked at the person being called Ah Qian. They saw him press one hand against his protruding belly. His handsome face was deathly pale, and his body swayed as if he might collapse at any moment.
The person outside continued. The originally gentle tone seemed to be laced with deep sadness. “Ah Qian, I know you’re in there. I’ve really been looking for you for so long. I miss you so much. Come out, all right? Come home with me.”
Ah Qian shook his head vigorously, lips pressed tightly together without making a sound.
When he received no response, the person outside let out a dejected sigh, then raised his voice slightly. “Friends inside the room, the one who just rashly intruded is my wife. I trouble you to open the door so I can take him home.”
So they were a couple. Was this a quarrel leading to separation? Su Jingyang instinctively moved his feet. Ah Qian cried out hoarsely, “Don’t open it!”
Su Jingyang froze awkwardly. He hadn’t been planning to open it anyway, but felt this standoff wasn’t a solution either.
Only then did Ah Qian finally speak. Su Jingyang heard the restrained sobbing in his voice. “Lin Jia, please leave. I was the one who was wrong back then, clinging to you after mistaking you for someone else. It was my fault. I’ve wronged you. Leave, please. I don’t love you at all!”
Outside the door, there was a silence as dead as still water. Then Lin Jia gave a soft laugh, full of tenderness. “You’re lying to me. We’ve been together for half a year. How could you have no feelings for me at all? If you don’t love me, then why are you still keeping my child? Ah Qian, it’s not that you don’t not love me, you’re just afraid to admit you’ve fallen for me. Why can’t you be honest and face it?”
Ah Qian went blank for a moment before his entire body began trembling. He clutched his head with both hands, his expression twisting with agony as he shouted, “You’re talking nonsense! Go away! Go!”
Already pregnant and now overly agitated, his cheeks flushed red and his body unsteady. After that shout, he nearly collapsed. Thankfully Su Jingyang reacted fast, lunging forward and catching him.
Seeing Ah Qian’s condition, Su Jingyang couldn’t help calling out to the person outside. “Um, Lin… Young Master Lin. He’s in a special condition right now. Could you leave for a bit and not stimulate him? CYou both should calm down for a night before talking.”
After a long while, Lin Jia’s wistful sigh came through. “Then I’ll trouble you friend to look after my spouse for now. Another day I’ll repay this kindness another day.”
Lin Jia’s footsteps had barely faded when someone knocked again. Ah Qian, whose nerves had just begun to relax, immediately tensed up again, gripping Su Jingyang’s arm forcefully, and his breathing disordered.
The voice outside was Rong Ci’s. “Su Jingyang, do you need help?”
Su Jingyang knew he must have heard the commotion and said no. Rongci hummed and left a sentence. “I’ll watch Ah Xuan. You two talk.”
“…” This guy was actually quite perceptive.
Once Ah Qian calmed a little, Su Jingyang and Ling Li helped him sit at the table, and Su Jingyang passed him a cup of hot tea. A Qian accepted it quickly, his eyes shimmering as he looked at them with sincerity and thanked them. Su Jingyang also harvested a small wave of energy.
Ah Qian drank two sips, then his gaze fell on the half-finished bowl of noodles still on the table. His stomach suddenly growled loudly with no warning. Ah Qian immediately looked embarrassed and lowered his head, pressing a hand to his belly.
Ling Li knew a pregnant person couldn’t go hungry. He rose at once and went to the kitchen, returning quickly with a big bowl of noodles. Ah Qian was truly starving, so he thanked them in a rush, grabbed his chopsticks, and buried his head in the food. In no time, he finished everything, noodles and broth alike.
Ling Li was about to go get him another bowl, but Ah Qian covered his mouth and let out a small, restrained burp. His ears turned red, and he shook his head, embarrassed, saying he was full.
Another knock came from a server outside. The server said a certain Young Master Lin had ordered food and specifically instructed it to be delivered to this room.
Ah Qian’s expression stalled. Without opening the door, he had the assistant take it back.
Ah Qian sat there with heavy thoughts for a while, then suddenly braced his lower back and stood as if he meant to leave. Su Jingyang felt it wasn’t safe for someone with a big belly to run out alone at night, so he urged him to stay and sleep for the night, then leave at dawn.
“Besides, if you leave right now, your husband will definitely follow you. Wouldn’t it be better to lay things out and say it all clearly? Then you wouldn’t have to keep hiding and running.”
From what Su Jingyang had heard at the door earlier, Ah Qian had been avoiding Lin Jia for some reason, but it didn’t sound like cheating. Ah Qian seemed to have some kind of hardship he couldn’t speak.
Sure enough, after hearing Su Jingyang’s suggestion, Ah Qian’s smile was filled with endless bitterness. “Between us… it’s difficult to explain clearly.”
Even so, under Su Jingyang’s coaxing, Ah Qian slowly sat back down. He stared into space for a while. There were dark shadows under his eyes, like he hadn’t slept well in a long time.
Maybe he’d been depressed too long and desperately needed to pour it out. Su Jingyang and Ling Li also looked kind and friendly. Ah Qian’s eyes reddened, and he finally couldn’t hold back. He spoke through tears, telling them everything about his past with Lin Jia.
It turned out Ah Qian’s full name was Lu Qian, a disciple of the Minshan Sect. Back then, he’d gone down the mountain with his senior brothers to gain experience and met a friend on the road, Gao Zhanfei.
Lu Qian was reserved and shy, while Gao Zhanfei was bright and always smiling. Their personalities were completely different, yet they clicked at first sight and quickly fell deeply in love.
Who would’ve thought that while Lu Qian was still soaking in happiness, Gao Zhanfei suddenly left behind a letter. He said he’d fallen seriously ill and didn’t want to drag Lu Qian down. He wrote that life and death were determined by fate, told Lu Qian not to keep thinking of him, and then vanished without a trace.
Losing his beloved so suddenly without warning, Lu Qian was shattered. He frantically searched everywhere until half a year later, he finally found Gao Zhanfei on the street. Only, Gao Zhanfei seemed to have lost his memory. He remembered nothing about their past, and his temperament had changed completely, nothing like before.
Lu Qian thought the changes were related to illness. Being able to find him again already felt like a miracle, so he didn’t force him to recover his memories. Even though Gao Zhanfei had forgotten so much, he seemed to love Lu Qian even more than before.
Compared to the past, Gao Zhanfei now was far more domineering and flamboyant. He was even unreasonable at times, refusing to let Lu Qian speak to other men, refusing to let Lu Qian come home too late. Since Lu Qian loved him, he kept tolerating every change.
Three months after their reunion, the two married. Not long after, Lu Qian became pregnant. Just when Lu Qian thought he had finally suffered through the worst and reached sweetness, an accident revealed the truth.
The Gao Zhanfei by his side wasn’t Gao Zhanfei at all!
He was Gao Zhanfei’s twin brother, Lin Jia.
Gao Zhanfei and Lin Jia’s parents split not long after they were born. Their father raised the older brother, their mother raised the younger. Their surnames were different too. The brothers had never met in twenty years, and yet it didn’t change the fact that they had the same face.
Lu Qian had been driven nearly mad searching for his love. When he saw someone with that face in the street, he rushed up and clung to him, sobbing uncontrollably. Lin Jia had been mistaken for his brother, and for reasons unknown, he played along. He impersonated his brother Gao Zhanfei and stayed by Lu Qian’s side for half a year.
Once Lu Qian overheard Lin Jia speaking with his subordinate and learned the truth, he completely fell apart. He didn’t know how to face it. He felt deceived, lost, with nowhere to go.
Two months pregnant, Lu Qian left. He hid for nearly five months, yet Lin Jia still found him in the end.
However, Lu Qian didn’t want to go home with him. In the panic of running, he ended up barging into Su Jingyang’s room.
Lu Qian’s eyes were red. “It’s all because I was too muddle-headed. Wrong is wrong. Once you discover it, you can’t keep being wrong. I was already betraying my feelings for Zhanfei by being with him.”
Su Jingyang asked in an extremely soft voice, “If you don’t love Lin Jia, then why did you still keep his child?”
“I…” Lu Qian’s lips trembled. He choked for a long while, and then tears finally fell. He lowered his head, lifted a hand, and gently stroked his belly. His voice was hoarse. “The child… the child is innocent.”
What a powerless excuse. If Lu Qian truly hated Lin Jia’s deception with all his heart and had not the slightest feeling for him, the child likely wouldn’t exist anymore.
Su Jingyang watched the tear tracks on Lu Qian’s face with extremely complicated feelings.
Lu Qian was a little like Xu Mei, in a way. Xu Mei knew he loved and just didn’t dare accept it because of insecurity. Lu Qian had fallen in love and didn’t dare admit it, because admitting it also meant betrayal, betrayal of Gao Zhanfei. He couldn’t accept this version of himself.
In the end, Lu Qian couldn’t resist the exhaustion in body and mind. He lay down on the bed and fell asleep. Even asleep, his brows stayed tightly knit.
Su Jingyang faintly sensed this pair might again be connected to his energy collection. After Xu Mei’s example, however, he didn’t dare hope too much. He just quietly decided he would definitely intervene. How much energy he got in the end would be up to fate.
Even though Su Jingyang had only just met Lu Qian, he could already tell he was sensitive and fragile inside. He was the kind who easily held onto things and easily sank into depression. Untying the knot between him and Lin Jia would be far harder than pushing Xu Mei and Mu Jin together.
Ling Li went to sleep with Ah Xuan in the room across the hall. Su Jingyang slept on the same bed as Lu Qian, one inside, one outside, each under their own blanket.
Late at night, Su Jingyang was sleeping soundly by the edge of the bed when a commotion outside, not very loud but clearly a fight, jolted him awake. He startled and sat upright.
The fighting stopped. He heard Lin Jia speaking to Rong Ci in a low voice.
Lin Jia said, “Why are you blocking me for no reason, friend? I’m here to take my wife. Please step aside.”
Rong Ci said, “My wife is also in there. Do you think it’s appropriate to barge in at midnight?”
Su Jingyang froze before silently spitting with disgust. Shameless!
Lin Jia said, “Oh? If so, then I’ve been discourteous.”
Rong Ci said, “If you know you’ve been discourteous, then leave. The two inside are resting just fine. If there’s anything to discuss, wait until daylight.”
Lin Jia fell silent, weighing it for a moment. In the end, he left.
Su Jingyang turned back and looked at the person inside the bed. Lu Qian was too exhausted and hadn’t been woken. Su Jingyang had only just lain back down when he heard Rong Ci outside softly calling his name.
Su Jingyang deliberately ignored him. Rong Ci seemed to know Su Jingyang was awake anyway. He gave a quiet, almost-there laugh, then said, “Stop muttering curses at me in your heart. Sleep quickly.”
I’m already sleeping. Like you need to tell me. Su Jingyang rolled over, yanked the blanket over his head, and before long, he fell asleep again without worry.
The next day, Su Jingyang finally saw Lin Jia clearly. He was tall, young, and handsome, with eyes like brilliant stars. When he looked at Lu Qian, a deep, scorching light flickered in his gaze. Anyone could tell he loved Lu Qian.
Lu Qian kept avoiding his eyes. His lashes trembled, his chest rising and falling in uneven waves.
Lu Qian had probably accepted Su Jingyang’s advice and agreed to meet Lin Jia, wanting to make it clear once and for all and then cut ties, so Lin Jia would stop clinging to him. He was likely afraid Lin Jia would do something drastic, so he begged Su Jingyang and the others to stay and accompany him.
Su Jingyang truly wanted them to talk it out, yet before they even began, Lu Qian’s eyes kept dodging, refusing to look at Lin Jia.
When Lu Qian learned the truth back then, his blood surged and his mind felt like it was being scorched by karmic fire. He cried and fought with Lin Jia. He hadn’t been able to calm down enough to hear any explanation before he disappeared.
To this day, Lu Qian still had one mystery unresolved in his heart.
Why, when Lu Qian had mistaken him on the street, hadn’t Lin Jia explained? Why had he gone along with it and pretended to be an amnesiac Gao Zhanfei?
The smile at Lin Jia’s lips gradually faded. He stared at Lu Qian’s side profile for a long time without speaking.
Lu Qian, furious, finally turned and glared at him. “Even now, you still won’t tell me the truth?”
Lin Jia broke into a bright smile again. He tilted his head slightly, his voice gentle. “Ah Qian, you finally looked at me!”
Lu Qian closed his eyes, his lips turning pale.
“All right, all right. Don’t be angry. I’ll tell you everything. If you hadn’t been too worked up back then, I would’ve told you sooner. However Ah Qian, you ran too fast. I couldn’t catch up.” There was a trace of grievance in Lin Jia’s tone.
Hearing this, Lu Qian’s heart trembled.
In that chaotic moment back then, he had stabbed Lin Jia. It hadn’t been a fatal spot, but Lin Jia had bled a lot. Lu Qian had ridden away on horseback. When he looked back, he’d seen Lin Jia clutching his abdomen and chasing after him, stumbling step by step. Lu Qian hardened his heart and still left.
Lu Qian knew Lin Jia’s people would return soon once they finished their tasks, and Lin Jia wouldn’t be in danger. Yet when Lu Qian’s foggy mind cleared later, he realized his heart ached like it was dying. Even so, he kept desperately avoiding Lin Jia’s search. He wanted to stop this absurd mistake. He… couldn’t betray Zhanfei.
Lu Qian snapped back, hearing Lin Jia begin to explain in a slow voice. What he heard next left him completely stunned!
It turned out Lin Jia knew Lu Qian was searching for Gao Zhanfei, and deliberately waited on the street to be “found” and taken in. Before that, Lin Jia had already been secretly following Lu Qian for half a year. From the moment Lu Qian began searching everywhere for Gao Zhanfei, Lin Jia had been at his side like a shadow. Lu Qian simply hadn’t noticed.
Lu Qian’s eyes widened, his tightly clasped hands trembling. This was far beyond anything he’d imagined.
“I always knew I had an older brother,” Lin Jia said. “I was curious, so I wanted to find him. I didn’t expect to see you two together.” As he said this, his brows lifted slightly. He paused. Listening nearby, Su Jingyang couldn’t shake the feeling Lin Jia had skipped over something.
“Not long after, Gao Zhanfei disappeared. You started looking everywhere for him. I saw you weren’t doing well, and I was worried, so I stayed by your side. Of course, Ah Qian, don’t think you were stupid for not noticing me. My hiding skills are just too good. I followed you in silence for half a year, and then I watched you for another half a year. And as I watched, I couldn’t stop thinking…”
Lin Jia’s voice carried a yearning. There was genuine envy and jealousy on his face as he looked at Lu Qian.
“The person you were so desperate to find, if only it had been me.”
His tone slowed, softened further, as he continued. “So I went and waited for you on the street. I pretended to be the amnesiac Gao Zhanfei and let you bring me home. Ah Qian, I love you. You’ve fallen in love with me too. Gao Zhanfei is irresponsible, he’s completely unworthy of you.
The two of us are meant to be together. You shouldn’t leave me. These days when you weren’t by my side, I missed you so much I was going crazy. Ah Qian, be good. Come home with me, all right? You’re carrying a child. Running around outside all day is dangerous.”
Lu Qian’s face was white as paper. His breath shook as he asked weakly, “So… so that’s your reason for deceiving me?”
Lin Jia said, “I know you. If I didn’t deceive you, then even if I had the same face as Gao Zhanfei, you’d still only ever see me as his younger brother. Yes I deceived you, but I succeeded! You fell for me. I’m Lin Jia, not Gao Zhanfei.”
Lin Jia couldn’t stop a cold snort from slipping out. “You were happy with me, weren’t you? That scumbag Gao Zhanfei doesn’t deserve you at all. If he dies out there somewhere, it’s just karma. Ah Qian, stop always thinking about searching for him.”
Originally, Lu Qian hadn’t reacted particularly violently, but hearing this sentence, he suddenly stood up. His eyes splitting with fury as he pointed at the door and shouted harshly, “Get out. Never appear before me again! Get out!!!”
