ACWTE CHAPTER 96

In Ji Chaoyun’s Hand Was His Scarlet Feather Sword

The next day, before the sky had fully brightened, the layers of gauze curtains inside the room completely concealed the scene within.

“No. We can’t continue. You... Ji Chaoyun!”

Feng Qi forcibly restrained Ji Chaoyun’s restless hands and feet, his expression stern. Ji Chaoyun’s glass-like eyes were moist and red, filling pitifully with mist. “Feng Qi...”

“No. You haven’t slept all night.” Feng Qi refused without hesitation.

Ji Chaoyun’s pair of dragon horns had long since been stimulated to the point that he could no longer retract them. His voice was hoarse, and his arms were still struggling free, trying to burrow into Feng Qi’s embrace.

Dragons really were… rather different once they became pregnant.

In the past, after several rounds of spiritual cultivation, Ji Chaoyun would already be unable to endure it and beg him to stop. Last night, however, had been completely different. Feng Qi had originally worried about hurting the child in Ji Chaoyun’s belly and had chosen only a few of the easier positions from that booklet. Who could have expected Ji Chaoyun to remain completely unsatisfied? From last night until this morning, he had clung to Feng Qi and demanded it for the entire night.

He had never even been like this during his heat cycle.

Feng Qi wrapped Ji Chaoyun in the quilt. Half of Ji Chaoyun’s face was buried beneath it, yet his eyes remained fixed upon Feng Qi, bright and burning.

Feng Qi’s head hurt whenever he saw that look in his eyes.

It was not that he could not continue. Ji Chaoyun still had a child in his belly. If they kept this up, even if Ji Chaoyun could bear it, the child would not.

Ji Chaoyun rubbed his head lightly against Feng Qi’s palm and considerately asked, “Are you tired?”

“...” Feng Qi gritted his teeth, leaned close to his ear, and murmured, “Once this child is born, I’ll let you see whether I can get tired or not. Go to sleep. Stop tempting me.”

Scalding breath fell against Ji Chaoyun’s ear. He shrank back, and his body once again began heating uncontrollably.

“...”

Again???

Feng Qi stared at him in silence for a long while before finally sighing. He got up, found a garment to drape over Ji Chaoyun, then carried him out of bed.

When he pushed open the door, clouds and mist drifted through the immortal residence in the early morning, and the sky still held a faint blue hue.

Feng Qi carried Ji Chaoyun toward the lake. Cool breezes swept across the surface, finally clearing their heads somewhat. Feng Qi carried him into the water, and the icy lake water instantly rose around them.

After an entire night of fooling around, both of their bodies were a complete mess.

Feng Qi placed Ji Chaoyun in the shallows beside the lake and slowly washed away the traces left on his body with the water.

As the water flowed over his body, Ji Chaoyun gradually calmed from his excitement. What followed was exhaustion and soreness throughout his entire body. His waist was so weak that he could barely straighten it.

Feng Qi asked with a smile, “Awake now?”

Ji Chaoyun gave a quiet “mm” without answering further.

The two soon finished washing themselves clean, and only then did Feng Qi pull Ji Chaoyun beneath the lake. Although Feng Qi had now lost his dragon pearl, he was still protected by divine power and naturally did not fear the water. At the deepest part of the lake, amid reefs and clusters of coral, stood a small jade couch.

Feng Qi pulled Ji Chaoyun down onto the couch, let him rest against his chest, and massaged his body to help him relax.

The exhaustion from their entire night of fooling around finally arrived belatedly. Ji Chaoyun rested his head against Feng Qi’s chest and began to grow drowsy.

After massaging him for a while, Feng Qi’s hand slid to Ji Chaoyun’s lower abdomen and stroked it lightly a few times.

Seeming to sense the touch from outside, the spiritual energy within his belly became lively, curiously scratching about like a tiny paw.

“Ngh...”

Ji Chaoyun frowned in discomfort and shifted slightly. Feng Qi quickly admonished in a low voice, “Don’t move around. Your papa is uncomfortable.”

The little cub immediately stopped moving. Ji Chaoyun glanced at Feng Qi and took his hand. “You were clearly the one who bothered him first.”

“I just wanted to see when he’ll come out.” Feng Qi said, “The Medical Sage clearly said that as long as there was sufficient spiritual power, he could be born in three to four months. That much time has already passed. Why is there still no sign at all?”

Ji Chaoyun said, “Perhaps the time has not yet come. There’s no need to worry. The little cub will be fine.”

Feng Qi lowered his eyes to look at him and sighed. “In a few more days, I’ll be sending troops to Qingqiu.”

Ji Chaoyun fell silent.

With the aid of the Dragon Clan of Lingyuan Sea, locating Qingqiu was no longer difficult. They had agreed yesterday that the Dragon Clan would depart first and enter the Nameless Sea. If all went smoothly, Feng Qi would lead the army there three days later.

Now only three days remained.

Ji Chaoyun nestled closer into Feng Qi’s embrace. “Then you’d better hurry back. Otherwise, if the cub is born and doesn’t see his father, be careful he doesn’t refuse to acknowledge you afterward.”

“Mm, I know.” Feng Qi smiled and held him tighter. “I’ll return as quickly as I can. I won’t make you wait too long. I promise.”

Ji Chaoyun said, “I promise too. I’ll stay here in the immortal residence, take good care of myself and the little cub, and not make you worry.”

No sunlight could penetrate this deep underwater. Ever-bright night pearls that had shone for ten thousand years adorned the jade couch, illuminating Feng Qi’s handsome features with perfect clarity.

Ji Chaoyun raised his head and gazed steadily at him. His lips curved before he buried his head in Feng Qi’s embrace. “After three hundred years, my Divine Lord Feng Xiao is going to save the world again. This will be the last time. Once you return this time, you’re not allowed to leave again.”

Feng Qi’s heart filled with both bittersweet ache and sweetness. He turned over and pressed Ji Chaoyun against the jade couch, then lowered his head and kissed him fiercely.

A string of bubbles slipped from between their lips and floated toward the distant surface. It was Feng Qi’s first time experiencing anything like this. He lowered his head thoughtfully and noticed that Ji Chaoyun’s breathing had grown heavier.

The water was the place Ji Chaoyun knew best.

A thought stirred in Feng Qi’s heart. He leaned close to Ji Chaoyun’s ear and asked quietly, “Do you want to do it once underwater?”

Ji Chaoyun’s breath caught, and that familiar restlessness began rising within him again. “Didn’t you say we couldn’t...”

“I’ll be gentle.” Feng Qi kissed Ji Chaoyun’s fingers one by one, then clasped his wrist, laughter in his eyes. “If we spirit cultivate a few more times, perhaps the little cub will be born sooner.”

...

...

Ji Chaoyun reacted even more strongly in the water than he did on land. In the end, Feng Qi thoroughly wore him out until he fell asleep, and Feng Qi had to carry him back to the bedchamber.

For the remaining three days, Feng Qi did not leave the immortal residence. Everything that needed to be arranged was handled through messages with the outside world, while he devoted himself entirely to staying with Ji Chaoyun.

In the blink of an eye, the three-day deadline approached. Feng Qi sent out the final secret letter and wearily pressed his fingers against his brow.

The Dragon Clan had roughly located Qingqiu. Tonight, the allied forces would march for the Nameless Sea to rescue the hostages Bai Qiuyue had taken.

Dusk had already gathered outside the window. Feng Qi leaned back against his chair and read through the secret correspondence he had exchanged with Jun Ruzhuo over the past several days.

Since Ji Chaoyun could not participate in the coming battle, the dragon forces heading for the Nameless Sea were under Jun Ruzhuo’s unified command. From determining Qingqiu’s precise location to planning their assault, everything had been devised jointly by him and the Immortal Realm allied forces. His ability to carry out the plans was so strong that even Feng Qi had to regard him in a new light.

Only a few months had passed, yet this man truly had matured considerably.

While Feng Qi was lost in thought, someone knocked on the door.

Ji Chaoyun entered carrying a food box.

Feng Qi quickly stood and went over to take it from his hands. “You went into the kitchen? Didn’t I tell you not to go to places like that? If you want to eat something, just tell me.”

Ji Chaoyun let Feng Qi help him into a chair. “I’m fine. It isn’t as though I’m so gravely injured that I can’t get out of bed. I’m not that delicate.”

Feng Qi was now particularly sensitive to the word “delicate” lately. His brow twitched slightly, but he said nothing more and lowered his head to open the food box.

“What's this?”

“I made soup for you.” Ji Chaoyun smiled. “Eight-Treasure Seafood Soup.”

Feng Qi paused, then immediately remembered where he had heard that name before. “The same one from three hundred years ago?”

“You still remember?”

Feng Qi squeezed onto the seat beside him and said with a smile, “Of course I remember. Didn’t someone burn down the kitchen for the sake of that pot of soup? If I remember correctly, the soup itself was burnt too.”

“...” Ji Chaoyun turned his gaze away uncomfortably and muttered, “Didn’t we agree not to mention that anymore? I’m quite good at cooking now. It isn’t like before.”

Feng Qi raised a brow, his face filled with distrust. “Is that so?”

Ji Chaoyun filled a bowl and shoved it into Feng Qi’s hands. “Try it. It really tastes good.”

Feng Qi took a doubtful sip, and his gaze paused slightly.

True to its name, the soup contained eight rare treasures from the sea and was a soup greatly beloved by the dragons of Lingyuan Sea. Back then in the mortal realm, Ji Chaoyun had once made it for Feng Qi, except the result... had been disastrous.

This time was different. The soup was rich and savory, and the ingredients had been stewed until soft enough to melt in the mouth, without even the slightest trace of a fishy smell.

Feng Qi heartily finished an entire bowl before looking up in surprise. “When did you learn how to cook?”

Ji Chaoyun’s lips curved proudly as he filled another bowl for Feng Qi. “Actually, I don’t know how to cook... This is the only dish I know.”

“Why?”

Ji Chaoyun said, “Have you forgotten? Because I promised you that the next time we met, I would make it for you.”

Feng Qi froze.

He lowered his eyes to the milky-white broth, and warmth from that bowl of soup seemed to seep into his heart as well. “So you deliberately learned how to make this over all these years, just so you could make it for me?”

“Mm.” Ji Chaoyun nodded. “Do you like it?”

“I do,” Feng Qi said. “I like it very much.”

Feng Qi drank the entire pot of soup without leaving a drop. Night soon descended, and the two sat upon the roof ridge, quietly gazing at the sky filled with stars.

The teleportation gate set within the courtyard suddenly flashed. It was a message from the allied forces.

The time for the army to depart was approaching.

Neither of them moved. Ji Chaoyun leaned back against Feng Qi’s chest and suddenly asked softly, “You’ll come back safely, won’t you?”

Feng Qi answered, “I will. I’ll definitely come back safely.”

Ji Chaoyun slowly exhaled and lowered his head to stroke his slightly rounded belly. “You still didn’t manage to come out before he had to leave, little thing.”

Feng Qi said, “It doesn’t matter. I’ll come back as soon as I can. I won’t miss the little one’s hatching.”

“All right. You said it yourself.”

Ji Chaoyun pulled Feng Qi down from the roof ridge and said quietly, “Go. Don’t make them wait too long.”

Feng Qi gazed at him reluctantly. “The Medical Sage will arrive at the immortal residence first thing tomorrow morning. With him here to look after you, I’ll be able to leave without worrying.”

“Mm.”

Feng Qi still did not move. He spread his arms and tilted his head toward Ji Chaoyun with a smile. “Give me a hug. I have to go.”

Ji Chaoyun was about to step forward when he seemed to sense something. His expression changed slightly.

Feng Qi did not notice anything wrong. He strode forward and pulled Ji Chaoyun tightly into his arms.

“I really don’t want to leave you.” Feng Qi bent down close to Ji Chaoyun’s ear and said warmly, “I promise, this is the last time.”

“Feng Qi...” Ji Chaoyun’s voice was strained and trembling strangely.

Feng Qi asked in a low voice, “Mm? What is it?”

“I... I think...”

Feng Qi heard something wrong in his voice and was about to straighten when a sudden chill pierced his abdomen.

A sword had run through his body.

Feng Qi raised his head and met Ji Chaoyun’s stunned gaze.

In Ji Chaoyun’s hand was his Scarlet Feather Sword.
