The Aftermath of Pregnancy (Xiao Ba and  Susu)

After taking a month’s leave, Nie Siran finally returned to court.

When the civil and military officials beheld the Prime Minister, now even more spare-boned and refined in bearing, they were so moved they nearly wept.

This court could do without them, but it could not do without Lord Prime Minister Nie.

Over this past month, without Lord Nie standing in front and contending with Emperor Huai on their behalf, they had truly felt just how terrifying Emperor Huai was. Especially on those days when Emperor Yuan did not come to court, the entire great hall would fall so silent that not even a crow dared caw. The officials all wished they could burrow into the floor rather than face Emperor Huai directly.

From that day onward, the entire court regarded Nie Siran with a reverence not previously seen.

What they could not make sense of, however, was that while Prime Minister Nie had returned, Minister Su was apparently still on leave.

They watched Nie Siran with admiration. In the past, they had never noticed that Prime Minister Nie could actually discuss affairs with Emperor Huai while wearing a smile. At the very least, they themselves could not smile. Every day they came to court in a mood like going to the grave, each day as long as a year.

Once court was dismissed, Nie Siran was summoned by Lu Ronghuai to the Imperial Study.

“Does Your Majesty intend to let the rumors outside continue unaddressed?” Seated in a round-backed chair by the window, Nie Siran removed his official cap and set it properly upon the table.

Feigning ignorance, Lu Ronghuai asked with puzzlement, “Oh? What rumors are there outside?”

Nie Siran’s dark eyes swept toward him, quietly watching him put on his performance. “Both court and countryside are saying that Ah-Yuan is with child again, and they tell it with nose and eyes. If it is true, then so be it. But if it is false, the rumors cannot be left to spread any farther.”

Lu Ronghuai was holding back laughter in his heart. Setting down the cinnabar brush, he lifted one brow. A few traces of wanton allure showed on his handsome face. “I understand. The Yunwu tea from this year is quite good. Try some.”

Seeing him change the subject, Nie Siran clicked his tongue softly. He was just lifting the teacup to drink when Chu Yuan and Bai Qingyu entered from outside the hall.

Lu Ronghuai immediately rose and went over to take Chu Yuan’s hand. “Finished with your matters?”

Chu Yuan smiled and nodded, then turned to exchange a greeting with Nie Sirann.

Nie Siran inclined his head. His eyes brushed, seemingly by accident, across Chu Yuan’s flat abdomen. He set down the teacup and raised his gaze to Bai Qingyu. “How stands the situation in the Northern Frontier?”

Bai Qingyu sat down as he answered, “Troops have already been sent to deal with it. It was only a band of wandering rebels, no real strength to them.”

Lu Ronghuai said, “With the year-end approaching and the court occupied, I will go with Qingyu personally after the new year. If there is any hidden danger, we will root it out entirely.”

Chu Yuan turned his head to look at Lu Ronghuai. Today he wore dark indigo informal robes, his black hair loosely pinned with only a single white jade hairpin. His brows and eyes were clear and handsome. He smiled brightly at Lu Ronghuai.

“Speaking of the matter in the Northern Frontier, it actually has quite a relation to Your Majesty,” Chu Yuan said, deliberately keeping them in suspense as he went on at leisure. “I hear the one leading the unrest was once Your Majesty’s cousin. He and Your Majesty were childhood companions, green plums and bamboo horses, and knew innocence together.

Lu Ronghuai glanced toward Bai Qingyu. Bai Qingyu pretended to look at the scenery, his eyes already turned toward the window. Then Lu Ronghuai looked to Nie Siran, only to find Nie Siran smiling as he propped his brow with one hand, plainly watching the excitement.

This fox...

The corner of Lu Ronghuai’s eye twitched. Turning back around, he gave Chu Yuan a serious and solemn assurance. “Ah-Yuan, I knew nothing of this matter. Elder Brother and Qingyu did not tell me beforehand. Truly. I can swear it to Heaven.”

Resting his cheek in his hand, Chu Yuan gazed at him and deliberately asked, “Does Your Majesty not remember your childhood companion now?”

“I do not remember him. I never had any childhood companion. Who exactly has been wagging tongues before you, ruining my reputation?”

Chu Yuan said, “His name is Ning Yuqiang. Does Your Majesty remember now?”

Lu Ronghuai had no choice but to hold his ground. “I cannot remember. He has left no impression.”

A light laugh came from the side. Nie Siran tapped the table edge. “Your Majesty’s memory is rather poor. Back when we were returning to the capital, was not the Marquis of Xuanning’s residence the first to flee?”

Bai Qingyu nodded. “That is correct. Ning Yuqiang had also secretly aided the Second Prince back then and spread all manner of rumors among the common people, colluding with the Empress Dowager in their schemes. When the six kingdoms rose in unrest, I suspect he had a hand in that as well.”

Nie Siran said, “He was not so clever. He was spun round and round in other people’s hands. Once the matter was exposed, he fled in guilty fear. Had he kept himself quiet and behaved, he might have been spared. Yet he insisted on stirring up trouble in the Northern Frontier, attempting to strike stone with an egg.”

Chu Yuan said, “For him to make so great a disturbance, perhaps he only wished for Your Majesty to know where he was.”

As soon as those words fell, the three gazes in the room all converged on Lu Ronghuai.

Lu Ronghuai’s composure tightened. With a seemingly easy smile, he gripped Chu Yuan’s hand tightly beneath the table. “Then I certainly will not fall for his trick. This matter shall be entirely entrusted to Qingyu. Once caught, kill him without mercy.”

Bai Qingyu was just about to acknowledge the order when Nie Siran, still adding fuel to the flames, said, “Does Your Majesty not intend to meet your bamboo-horse cousin one last time? Once yin and yang are divided, meeting again will not come easily.”

Grinding his back teeth, Lu Ronghuai forced a smile. “A thing entirely without basis. Elder Brother ought not jest.”

Nie Siran had no intention of letting him off lightly. “The way Your Majesty flatly denies it is rather interesting. Qingyu, what do you think?”

Bai Qingyu said, “Mm.”

Lu Ronghuai: “...”

Chu Yuan laughed until he was half-fallen sideways in his chair. Taking the initiative to rescue him, he said, “Enough, Elder Brother, Qingyu. Stay in the palace for the midday meal. Little Fish misses both of you very much.”

“Very well. This afternoon I will take him out of the palace. Father and the others also have not seen Xiao Yu in a long while. I will send him back tomorrow.”

Lu Ronghuai said, “He is welcome to stay longer. There is no need to send him back so quickly.”

Under the table, Chu Yuan kicked him.

With a smile, Bai Qingyu took up the words. “Your Majesty, let Xiao Yu stay at my house for a day as well. Shenshen has been muttering to me repeatedly. If I do not satisfy him soon, I fear I will not even be able to enter my own gate.”

At that moment, Lu Ronghuai suddenly found the two of them much more agreeable to the eye. In encouragement, he gave them both a thumbs-up.

Another month passed.

The four of them were in the Imperial Study discussing the New Year’s Eve banquet when Xian Feng suddenly knocked from outside.

“Your Majesty, the steward from General Bai’s residence has arrived in haste at the palace gate. Prince Jing has suddenly fainted. He asks that General Bai return home at once.”

Bai Qingyu’s face turned white in an instant, concern swiftly appearing between his brows. In his alarm, he even forgot to ask leave and rushed straight out of the Imperial Study.

Lu Ronghuai gave the order, “Xian Feng, take the two senior physicians from the Imperial Medical Bureau and go to Prince Jing’s residence at once.”

Xianfeng accepted the command.

Chu Yuan also rose to his feet. “We should go and have a look as well.”

Bai Qingyu had gone too quickly. By the time they reached the palace gate, there was already no sign of him.

“How is Eighth Brother now? Has he awakened?” Upon arriving at Prince Jing’s residence, Chu Yuan saw Bai Qingyu coming out from within and immediately asked.

Something seemed slightly off with Bai Qingyu’s expression. He shook his head and courteously saw the imperial physicians out.

As soon as they were gone, he urgently asked Nie Siran, “Brother Nie, something is not right with Shenshen’s condition. May I trouble Uncle Jiang to take his pulse?”

Nie Siran said, “Of course, but going back and forth will waste time. The carriage is at the gate. Let us go straight to my house.”

“My thanks.”

The whole group hastened to the Nie residence.

Bai Qingyu rushed into the Nie residence carrying Lu Rongshen in his arms. Nie Xuxing was just holding a bowl and about to head for the rear courtyard. Seeing them, he hurriedly asked, “What is this? What has happened to Rongshen?”

Bai Qingyu’s expression was anxious. “Uncle Nie, is Uncle Jiang at home?”

“He is. He has only just returned and is taking Xiao He’s pulse right now. I will lead you there.”

Nie Xuxing was just about to lead the way when Nie Siran suddenly rushed past him. “What has happened to Susu?”

Nie Xuxing said, “He may have eaten something that upset his stomach. He vomited three times this morning. Your Ah-Die just went over. I had the kitchen cook some congee. You have come back at just the right time, quickly take it over.”

Taking the bowl, Nie Siran broke into a run toward the rear courtyard.

Bai Qingyu followed close behind.

Nie Siran rushed into his courtyard. The instant he entered the room, he saw his Ah-Die holding Su Ruhe’s hand and speaking to him, with joy... joy unmistakably written across his face.

Seeing this, Nie Siran’s heart eased a little. Striding over, he bent down to look at Su Ruhe, who was leaning against the bed. “Do you still feel like vomiting now? Father cooked congee for you. Would you like some?”

He questioned Su Ruhe in a gentle voice, yet Su Ruhe seemed not to hear him. He sat there blankly, as though his spirit had wandered far away.

Nie Siran said, “Susu?”

Aiya, aiya, what are you crowding over here for? Do not jostle my Xiao He. Off to one side with you.” Jiang Ni rose and pushed Nie Siran backward. From the corner of his eye he caught sight of Bai Qingyu standing at the door, with Lu Rongshen in his arms, and immediately strode out, delight shining across his face. “Come, come, this is perfect. Quickly come in. Let me look at Rongshen.”

Bai Qingyu: “?”

Carrying Lu Rongshen inside with utmost care, he laid him upon the soft daybed. Jiang Ni washed his hands, came over, and began taking his pulse.

Lu Ronghuai stood behind Jiang Ni, while Chu Yuan went over to Su Ruhe.

“Elder Brother, how is Susu?”

Nie Siran had been talking to Su Ruhe, yet no matter what he said, Su Ruhe gave no response. It was only when Chu Yuan came over, his voice unhurried and clear, that Su Ruhe’s eyes slowly moved.

Quietly, he listened to Chu Yuan speak. His gaze turned little by little until it landed upon Chu Yuan’s lower abdomen. Then it froze there, unmoving, as though he were a clay doll.

At that very moment, Jiang Ni’s delighted laughter rang out from the other side.

“Ha ha ha, good things come in pairs, good things come in pairs indeed!”

Bai Qingyu stepped forward. A man who was ordinarily sparing with words asked an entire string of questions in one breath. “Uncle Jiang, what exactly is the matter? Earlier the two physicians hemmed and hawed, their expressions fearful, as though Shenshen had contracted some strange illness. Why, after taking his pulse, do you instead say this is a happy event?”

Jiang Ni looked around the room. Seeing everyone’s tense expressions, he rose and briskly rolled up his sleeves. Pointing to both sides with his hands, he laughed with open joy. “Of course it is a happy event. Xiao He and Xiao Shen are actually both with child at the same time. This is a heaven-sent delight. Come, Xuxing, accompany me to the kitchen. I am cooking personally today!”

With a sharp crash, the bowl slipped from Nie Siran’s hand and struck the ground.

The two tall men blocked Jiang Ni at the same moment and spoke in unison. “With child?”

“Indeed. Xiao He’s morning sickness is rather severe, so I must go instruct the kitchen to take extra care with his meals. As for Rongshen, he will be fine once he wakes. The two of you need not block me. I am busy preparing nourishing soup for them both, so quickly move aside.” With that, Jiang Ni pushed the two men away and walked out with a long, vigorous stride.

Leaving behind a room full of people staring at one another.

After a long while, Lu Ronghuai was the first to laugh. He mocked them, saying, “What is this, the two of you? Have you been so overwhelmed by joy that you have turned foolish?”

Bai Qingyu stared at the still-unconscious Lu Rongshen on the couch in utter disbelief. “This... cannot be... Did I hear wrongly?”

Nie Siran looked much calmer than he did. He turned and walked back. Yet just as he reached the bed, he stepped on a shard of broken porcelain, and Lord Prime Minister Nie, as bright as the moon and clear as the wind, dropped stiffly to his knees before everyone present.

“...”

The matter of the Minister and Prince Jing both being with child spread very quickly. Ever since the Jiang clan had come back to live among them, the common people had gradually grown accustomed to the notion that men could bear children. There were even those who had married Jiang clan members, and by now their children were already two or three years old. People had long since ceased to find it strange.

The ones who found it hardest to accept were, on the contrary, the two pregnant men themselves.

After waking, Lu Rongshen took a full day and night before he was barely able to accept that he himself was carrying a child. Once he came to terms with it, he directly landed three solid punches on Bai Qingyu, then angrily packed his things and returned to the Ye family home.

Consort Ye no longer lived in the palace now. Lu Ronghuai had specifically granted her permission to return to the Ye household, so that she and Lu Rongshen could meet whenever they wished.

Bai Qingyu did not dare say so much as half a word. All he could do was follow carefully behind, guarding Lu Rongshen’s safety. Yet once Lu Rongshen entered the Ye residence, he turned right around and had the servants shut the gate, refusing him entry.

On the other side, Su Ruhe’s vomiting was severe. Whatever he ate, he threw up. Each day Nie Siran thought of every possible way to prepare delicious food for him, yet nothing worked. In only half a month, both Su Ruhe and Nie Siran had grown much thinner.

In the end, it was Clan Leader Jiang who helped. Among the Jiang clan there were many men whose reactions after pregnancy had been severe. They had researched it for a long time and devised many methods of adjustment, and in truth had discovered a few useful approaches.

With the formula sent by Clan Leader Jiang, Su Ruhe’s vomiting gradually lessened and his complexion finally improved. Everyone let out a sigh of relief.

Lu Duoyu was the happiest of all. Every day he was either running to the Nie residence or going to Prince Jing’s residence. Altogether, he was so delighted he forgot to return home. All he did was gaze eagerly ahead, waiting for his imperial uncle and little uncle to hurry up and give birth to the babies so he could play with them.

It was only that, over these past several months, his uncle and Uncle Bai had not had an easy time, especially Uncle Bai.

After imperial uncle became pregnant, his temper grew much worse. Uncle Bai was often beaten, yet what the little one found most difficult to understand was that, although he had clearly been beaten, Uncle Bai somehow looked even happier afterward.

He felt that Uncle Bai and his uncle were living quite miserably.

One day, he was dragged out of his blanket early in the morning by his unscrupulous father and taken to the great hall to attend court. While still blinking sleepily, he caught sight of Nie Siran and Bai Qingyu standing below, both bruised and battered. Instantly, he gave a start and stared round-eyed in horror.

The dragon throne was broad. Even with the two Emperors seated together, there was room to spare. The little child sat between them, reaching out to tug lightly at Chu Yuan’s dragon robe.

“Ah-Die, were Uncle and Uncle Bai beaten by someone?” he whispered.

Chu Yuan lowered his head. The jade beads on the imperial crown swayed gently, veiling those brows and eyes whose grace could overturn cities. In a low voice, he told the child, “No. Little Fish need not worry.”

It was not only Lu Duoyu who was curious. All the officials of the court were equally curious about their faces.

Zhao Lu was the first unable to restrain himself. Concerned, he asked, “General Bai, what happened to your face?”

Turning toward Zhao Lu, Bai Qingyu revealed a left eye socket wholly black-blue and purple. His hoarse voice sounded somewhat troubled. “Last night my father and I were discussing the child’s milk name. My opinion differed from his, and I rejected his choice. He grew angry and punched me. Minister Zhao, which do you think sounds better, Bai Nianshen or Bai Xishen?”

Zhao Lu: “...” Neither sounds good.

He truly had a cheap mouth to have asked. Where had that cold and taciturn General Bai gone? The one before him was so vexing he almost wished to strike him.

Expressionless, Zhao Lu turned his head and looked toward Nie Siran, who stood at the head of the civil officials. “Prime Minister Nie, the mark on your face looks to me very much like a bite mark.”

There was, indeed, a row of teeth marks plainly visible on Nie Siran’s face. His gaze drifted over, and he gave Zhao Lu a profound look. “My husband’s appetite has grown greatly these days. At night, when he is hungry, he takes two bites. What, Minister Zhao envies me?”

Zhao Lu: “............”

He envied not even a hair’s worth!

No, were these two men ill in the head?

The corner of Zhao Lu’s mouth twitched violently. He decided to keep it shut. If he asked one more question, he would be a dog.

Having enjoyed the spectacle enough, Lu Ronghuai lazily propped up his chin. “The two of you should show some restraint. It is only having a child. Must you come and make a display of yourselves before the entire court? It is disgraceful.”

The same Emperor Huai who called them disgraceful later learned that Nie Siran had gained a daughter, and his eyes turned red with jealousy. He hugged Chu Yuan tightly and muttered, “Ah-Yuan, I want a daughter too. Give me a daughter, all right?”

With the two little ones newly born, Chu Yuan was busy preparing gifts. When Lu Ronghuai came over clinging and pestering, Chu Yuan seized his face, his beautiful eyes slanting. “Your Majesty, do not make trouble.”

Lu Ronghuai kissed his fingers, still resentful. “Why should that old fox have a daughter?”

He himself had none!

Chu Yuan said, “Oh? In that case, you really ought to reflect on yourself properly. Why do you not have one?”

Lu Ronghuai: “??”

Lu Ronghuai said, “It seems I have not been putting in sufficient effort. Ah-Yuan, rest assured, your husband will redouble his diligence hereafter and strive at the earliest opportunity to hold a little princess.”

When Chu Yuan was lifted into his arms, he bit down hard on Lu Ronghuai’s shoulder in exasperation. “Lu Wangli, get out!”

Su Ruhe and Lu Rongshen had both been pregnant at the same time, and in the end, they gave birth only one day apart. After discussing it together, both families decided to hold the celebratory banquet as one. Since both had given birth in the Nie residence, everyone decided the feast should be held there as well.

On the day of the hundred-day banquet, the entire household was thrown into busy confusion.

Lu Duoyu lay beside the cradle, staring without blinking at the two sweetly sleeping little treasures inside.

Little Candy-candy sister, Little Wine brother, I am your older brother Little Fish.” He happily and softly greeted the two infants, talking there by himself for quite a while, while the two babies in the cradle showed not the slightest sign of waking.

Su Ruhe sat at the side, his eyes full of laughter. Taking Lu Duoyu’s hand, he gently led him over to his side. “Little Sister and little Brother are not awake yet. Shall Little Fish go to the front courtyard to play first?”

Lu Duoyu shook his head. “Father said my task today is to stay here and keep little Uncle, Imperial Uncle, and little Brother and little Sister company. I do not want to go play in front. I only want to stay here with you.”

Lu Rongshen reclined on the soft daybed eating pastries. After giving birth, his face had rounded out a little, white and plump, looking extremely pleasing.

Lu Rongshen said, “Little Fish, come here. The two little ones were coaxed to sleep with no small effort. You absolutely must not tease them awake, otherwise your little uncle and I will have our hands full again.”

Obediently, Lu Duoyu went over. Lu Rongshen fed him a piece of honey-date cake, and Su Ruhe took out a handkerchief to wipe his mouth.

Looking at Lu Duoyu with smiling eyes, Lu Rongshen suddenly thought of something and teased him. “Little Fish, look how adorable little Brother and little Sister are. Which one do you like? In the future, one of them can be your wife.”

Though he was small, Lu Duoyu was full of tricks. The moment he heard this, he refused to be caught. Shaking his head like a rattle-drum, he said, “Little Fish does not want a wife.”

“?”

Lu Rongshen and Su Ruhe exchanged a glance. Crouching down, Su Ruhe fixed his gentle gaze upon Lu Duoyu. “Why does Xiao Yu not want one?”

Lu Duoyu blinked.

Lu Rongshen said, “Tell Imperial Uncle. Your little uncle and I promise not to tell anyone else.”

Lu Duoyu asked, “Truly?”

Lu Rongshen said, “Of course. When has Imperial Uncle ever deceived you?”

Su Ruhe smiled as well, his temperament gentle as water. “Yes. We will keep Little Fish’s secret.”

Hearing this, Lu Duoyu puffed out his little chest. When he smiled, the curve of his eyes looked more and more like Nie Siran’s. In a crisp voice, he said, “If you have a wife, you get beaten. Little Fish does not want to be beaten. Little Fish does not want a wife.”

Lu Rongshen was astonished. “Nonsense. Why would having a wife mean being beaten? Could it be that in the future you intend to marry a tigress?”

The little one blinked his eyes and asked obediently, “Are Imperial Uncle and little Uncle tigresses?”

“What?” Lu Rongshen pointed at his own face and cried injustice. “How could your little uncle and I possibly be tigresses? What is going on in that little head of yours?”

Lu Duoyu’s large eyes were full of confusion. “But... but if you are not tigresses, then why do you always bully Uncle and Uncle Bai? They are so pitiful.”

“When have we ever bullied... uh...” Lu Rongshen stopped halfway through his words. It seemed that during his pregnancy his temper had been just a tiny bit larger, and he really had punched and kicked Bai Qingyu more than once.

Cough, cough.” Su Ruhe could not help it either, pretending to cough softly to cover the embarrassment on his face.

“That was not... not bullying your uncle and Uncle Bai. The circumstances were special. Little Fish is still too young to understand.” Stroking the child’s cheek, Su Ruhe explained in a soft voice.

“Oh, Little Fish understands now.” Holding his face in both hands, Lu Duoyu smiled sweetly. “Ah-Die said this is the joy of husband-and-husband life. If the blows are many, then the feelings are deep. If the scolding is fierce, then the love is fierce. Little Uncle and Imperial Uncle must love Uncle and Uncle Bai terribly, right?”

Lu Rongshen’s mouth twitched. Under the child’s pure and spotless gaze, he pressed a hand to his brow and yielded, “Yes, yes, yes. You are right. I love that foo... that fellow terribly.”

Lu Duoyu turned his head and looked at Su Ruhe expectantly.

Su Ruhe pressed his lips together. The gaze of one big and one small was simply too burning. His shyness rushed up in waves, competing to emerge. After a long while, he finally nodded once. Before the gaze of a five-year-old child, red clouds spread across his face. “Mm. Little Uncle also loves your uncle very much.”

“Oh ho, Little Fish is so happy.” Lu Duoyu threw open his arms in a cheer, then ran forward to kiss each of them once on the cheek. “I am going to the kitchen to fetch bird’s nest for you. I will be back very soon.”

Obediently, Lu Duoyu walked out the door, turned left, and came to the corner of the wall. Tilting his head up, he smiled sweetly and held out his hands toward the two men.

“Uncle, Uncle Bai, little Uncle and Imperial Uncle both spoke the truth in their hearts. Little Fish finished the task, so where is Little Fish’s reward?”

Leaning against the corridor pillar with his arms folded, one leg casually bent, Nie Siran stretched out a green-dragon gold-and-jade inkstone and placed it in his hands. “Take it, little fox.”

Bai Qingyu also handed over the sea pearl he had prepared long before.

With a smile as adorable as could be, the little one said, “Thank you, Uncle. Thank you, Uncle Bai.”

Watching the child’s retreating figure, Bai Qingyu laughed. “You really have turned him into a little fox. At such a small age, he already knows how to trick us.”

“Rest assured, when he tricks us he still has some conscience. When he tricks his own father, he shows not the slightest mercy.”

Bai Qingyu thought of the many times Lu Duoyu had tricked Lu Ronghuai and directly laughed aloud. “That is true. The one who ought to have a headache is His Majesty.”

Smiling, Nie Siran turned his head slightly. Through layers of green bamboo, he could vaguely make out Lu Rongshen and Su Ruhe speaking inside the room. Watching for a moment, tenderness spilled out from his dark, ink-like eyes. Rising, he patted Bai Qingyu on the shoulder.

“Come. Let us go inside and see them.”

✧ A Word from the Author ✧

It is finished!!! Thank you all for your support and love over this past year. I am deeply grateful to everyone. Let us meet again if fate allows. The next book will be the one already up for pre-collection in my column. If you like it, you may save it first so you do not lose your way.

IsitRo: Whew!! Tysm for reading, cattos!!! This one nearly took me out fr. I went in thinking “okay let’s be strict with formal wording this time” and wow!!!! boy oh boy did I really set myself up LMAO. AI slipped so many times that I had to keep going back to fix things manually. Like??? Why did I do this to myself 😭😭 I did let a few things slide but I could reaaaallllyy feel how much more effort this project took from meee.

Also I rely on contractions way too much from my prev stories, so forcing myself to REMOVE them every time they popped up?? Absolute suffering orz Every time I saw one I was like *sigh* not today. I need a break so bad after this lmaooo but I regret nothing because Lu Ronghuai??? Yeah I’m down bad idc 🧎‍♀️

After finishing, I also went back to adjust some of the tags on NovelUpdates. A few of them didn’t quite reflect the story properly. The description mentioned Chu Yuan remembering bits and pieces, but that didn’t really happen, so I removed the “multiple rebirth individuals” tag. I also nooottticed that many tags seemed to lean toward Chu Yuan as the MC, but personally, I feel that Lu Ronghuai is the true MC, since he’s the one given a second chance despite both of them having POVs.

Okay enough yapping from me. ANYHOO, I’m gonna go “sleep” right after gaming a bit because priorities hello?? It’s only 11:03 PM, who cares about work tomorrow hahaha we’ll deal with that later.

See you whenever, and I wish you all the best on your reading journey!! I mean it fr 🥹 I also enjoyed the emote reactions from you guyss I need to start using it too~ And yeshhhh, this time I actually mean it when I say I’m taking a break. Not sure if I will have a story ready after this but plss do not hold me accountable if i have not hehe buhbye!
