PSFGB CHAPTER 55

You Don’t Have to Talk About Yourself Like That

Once both babies had fallen asleep beside him, Su Jingyang immediately went after that dog-thief system with murderous fury. “Was this your doing?? Are you sick or what??”

The system let out a string of heh-heh-hehs. “Your mother-and-sons bonding is none of my damn business, is it?”

Hearing it deliberately putting on that weird, mocking tone, Su Jingyang sneered. “If it’s not your business, then pigs can fly.”

The system didn’t deny it anymore but said, “You gave birth to the kids. What, you wanted to be a hands-off boss? Men really do show their true colors sooner or later. You shove everything onto other people, you’ve got zero sense of responsibility, and your mouth sure can yap-yap-yap. Besides, in you men’s eyes, the person who gives birth staying up day and night to take care of the child is only natural, only right, easy as breathing, no effort at all, with nothing to do, isn’t that so? Since it’s so easy, come experience it yourself.”

“...” Su Jingyang choked on his anger for quite a while. It was also the first time he couldn’t refute the system at all, because he really had been thinking he would just toss his hands up and not bother. Anyway, there would definitely be no shortage of people to look after the children. He could just hold them occasionally, get close, and that would be enough...

Now that he thought about it, he really was being irresponsible. After a moment of silent self-reflection, Su Jingyang gritted his teeth and said, “Fine. I’ll take care of them myself, but I have two kids. With them like this, how am I supposed to handle it alone?”

The system shot back, “You think you’re the only one in the world who’s ever had twins?”

“At least they’ve got family helping!” Su Jingyang snapped.

The system mocked, “Helping? Helping by pointing and bossing people around? Helping by holding them when they’re obedient, then tossing them away the moment they cry? Helping by drinking, partying, playing games, or helping by plugging their ears and hiding in another room to sleep in peace?!”

“You’re way too extreme!!! Not all men are like what you’re saying!” Su Jingyang’s anger flared.

“Aren’t they? At the very least, you are.”

Something snagged in Su Jingyang’s chest. He said resentfully, “You made me have kids, and now I’ve had them. So what’s this supposed to mean? I never said ‘kids are easy to raise,’ did I??? Do you really have to take revenge like this?”

“Told you it wasn’t me. You don’t believe it. You insist it is, so just take it as... a complimentary deluxe gift pack, heh-heh.”

“Go f*ck yourself!!!”

Su Jingyang had only calmed down for a short while after giving birth, and now his chest was burning like raging fire again. He was irritated and restless. He stiffened and stared into space for a moment, then turned his head to look at the two pale, tender little bundles sleeping quietly. Their brows, eyes, noses, and lips were all exquisitely adorable, yet he was looking at them like they were two little devils.

Thinking about the days ahead made his world go dark. He wailed internally, then flopped weakly back onto the bed.

He hadn’t been lying there long when Rong Ci came in. He sat by the bed and told him to get up and drink his medicine. Su Jingyang was annoyed and didn’t want it. He swung his hand away, but Rong Ci caught his wrist.

After a moment of silence, Rong Ci said, “It’s fine if you’re angry at me, but you have to drink the medicine. You’ll recover faster that way.”

Su Jingyang glanced over with the corner of his eye and happened to see the scratch marks on Rong Ci’s hand, the one holding the bowl. Those were from the day he gave birth, when he clawed and gripped him. On that pale skin, the wounds looked shockingly stark.

Su Jingyang looked away. After struggling for a moment, he still sat up and took the bowl to drink it. Once he finished, he kept holding the bowl, lowering his eyes to stare at the little bit of dregs left at the bottom, refusing to say a word.

Rong Ci also didn’t speak. After a while, he took the bowl from Su Jingyang’s hands and set it aside.

Su Jingyang suddenly lifted his head and stared at Rong Ci’s cold, pale face, and those beautiful, deep dark eyes. “I want to know. When did you realize it?”

Rong Ci’s lips moved. His voice was low. “The first day we returned to Rong City.”

Su Jingyang’s eyes went round, disbelief spreading across his face. The first day they came back?!

“You already figured it out back then? How did you notice?? Why didn’t you tell me? Was it fun to play with me??”

Rong Ci frowned slightly. He reached out as if to touch him, but Su Jingyang tilted his head away. “I’m asking you. Don’t put your hands all over me.”

Rong Ci sighed. “I wasn’t playing with you. I was just afraid that if you knew, you’d reject me even more.”

Su Jingyang was so angry his nose turned red. He roared at him, “So you planned to lie to me first, get me to marry you, and then deal with it later, right?! You even said you’d be the kids’ stepfather, you really put on a show. You, you’re seriously sinister! But I’m telling you, even if I married you, even if I gave birth to your children, I’ll still leave when it’s time for me to leave. You think I’d feel reluctant to go?!”

Rong Ci’s gaze fixed on his face. He said softly, “I know. I know you won’t feel reluctant to leave me or the children. I told you before, if I can be with you for one day, then it’s one day. I don’t ask for anything else.”

Su Jingyang shoved Rong Ci’s face away with one hand as he tried to edge closer. His eyes blazed. “Rong Ci! Quit acting! If I still can’t see you clearly today, then I’m a real idiot! ‘One day is one day,’ my ass. Who knows what traps you’ve got waiting for me to step into later. I’d have to be insane to believe you!”

Su Jingyang really wanted to hand him an acting award. Back when he found out there were two babies, Rong Ci had still sat there with that deep, cool expression. He acted like he meant it, but he must’ve been secretly thrilled out of his mind!

Rong Ci said, “Then just believe in yourself. You said you’re a cold and heartless person. You’ll definitely be able to stay cold and heartless to the end.”

Su Jingyang ground his teeth. “Don’t try to bewitch me, you piece of sh*t whose whole heart is full of sinister schemes and dirty tricks!!!”

Hearing that, Rong Ci actually laughed softly. He patted Su Jingyang’s hair and said, “You don’t have to talk about yourself like that.”

“When did I ever say I...” Su Jingyang froze, then realized what Rong Ci meant. His ears instantly heated up. He spat at him, “Shameless! Don’t change the subject! I even felt guilty before. Now it turns out I’m just a joke. I’ve been played like a fool from start to finish!”

When Su Jingyang got angry, his face flushed. Those big eyes of his burned bright with rage, utterly different from the muddled, bleak days before. It was like he’d come back to life.

That vivid, radiant version of him seemed to carry some kind of strange energy. It lit up Rong Ci’s heart too, like a warm light spreading through him.

Rong Ci stared at him for a moment, then pressed a hand to the back of his head, unable to restrain himself from leaning in to kiss his lips. Su Jingyang twisted hard to dodge and cursed, “You bas...”

His head was turned back. His mouth was quickly sealed again. The faint bitterness of the medicine tangled between their lips and tongues. Su Jingyang bit down hard. Rong Ci hissed and loosened slightly, brows knitting. “Are you a dog or something?”

Su Jingyang said, “I’m your ancestor. I’ll bite you to death, you rebellious bastard!”

Right after he said that, he heard a baby start crying. Su Jingyang’s scalp tightened. He shoved Rong Ci away on instinct, hurriedly leaned over, and gently patted and soothed, but after a while, the crying still wouldn’t stop.

“Probably wet himself,” Rong Ci leaned in and checked with his hand. Sure enough, it was damp.

Rong Ci was about to change the diaper, but Su Jingyang snatched it out of his hands. Seeing Rong Ci stare at him in confusion, Su Jingyang said, “I’ll do it. I’m fine.” He was afraid that if Rong Ci did it, the baby would cry even harder.

“Do you even know how?”

“...”

After Su Jingyang fumbled through it, the other one woke too. Thankfully, he didn’t cry. He just clenched his tiny fists and yawned with that milky baby smell.

Su Jingyang could temporarily tell them apart now. The older one cried and fussed more, and his cries were louder. The younger one was comparatively calmer, more like Rong Ci. Even so, no matter how calm he was, he was still a newborn and would still cry.

After Rong Ci picked up the younger one, his little mouth drooped and he immediately started sniffling and crying again. Su Jingyang instantly felt a headache coming on.

Rong Ci thought for a moment, then lifted his head to look at Su Jingyang. “Do you think they can tell you’re still angry at me, so they’re all taking your side and refusing to acknowledge me?”

Su Jingyang held the older one against his chest and rolled his eyes. “If they’re really on my side, then they should all go fuss at you. Torture you to death, you old father.”

That “old father,” barely in his early twenties, kept soothing the baby. Standing, sitting, walking around, but nothing worked. Su Jingyang was starting to feel his heart twitch from the noise. In the end, he could only resign himself. His voice went limp. “...Fine, bring him over to me.”

Before they set out to return to the city, Li Yin came to check Su Jingyang’s pulse. While Rong Ci stood at the doorway giving instructions to his subordinates, Su Jingyang lowered his voice and asked Li Yin quickly, “Rong Ci’s body is fine, right?”

Seeing how he was sneaking around like a thief, Li Yin couldn’t help laughing. “He took a heavy impact. His internal injuries are somewhat serious, but the City Lord has a good foundation. If he recuperates properly, he’ll be fine in about a month.”

Li Yin added, “If you’re worried about him, why don’t you ask him directly? Maybe with your concern, his injuries will heal faster.”

Su Jingyang ignored that and only said, “Oh right, he seems to cough a few times sometimes.”

“It’s not a big deal. Once he takes the medicine, it will all improve.” Li Yin reminded him again, “Your emotions also shouldn’t fluctuate too much. It will affect your recovery.”

Su Jingyang paused, then glanced toward the side with his peripheral vision. Seeing Rong Ci returning, he hurriedly lowered his voice and told Li Yin, “Remember, you’re not allowed to tell him what I just asked.”

After Rong Ci came over, he asked Li Yin about Su Jingyang’s condition. Li Yin answered honestly, everything was fine.

Li Yin looked at Su Jingyang again, wanting to speak but holding back. Su Jingyang glared at him as hard as he could. Li Yin acted like he didn’t see, pressed his lips together, then calmly looked at Rong Ci. “City Lord, let your subordinate check your pulse again.”

Rong Ci was about to say it wasn’t necessary, but then Li Yin added, “Furen seems very worried about your health. It’s better to take a look, so he can feel at ease.”

Rong Ci froze, then curled his lips into a smile. “All right.” He sat on the bed and extended his hand toward Li Yin.

Li Yin didn’t look at Su Jingyang. As he checked Rong Ci’s pulse, he spoke in a helpless tone. “Furen, stop glaring. I didn’t tell the City Lord what you asked me, did I?”

“...” Is there any difference between ‘not telling’ and basically telling?! Is there?! As expected, all of Rong Ci’s subordinates were just like Rong Ci, all of them were the same kind of sly!

Su Jingyang was so suffocated he didn’t even want to talk. Then he saw Rong Ci looking at him with smiling eyes, and he got more indignant. What the hell are you smiling for? Look how smug you are!

  1. While the system #2 has good points, it truly is no better than a victim-blaming jerk.
